Many experts agree that paying attention to your weight on a daily basis makes you much more likely to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Having an accurate, easily accessible scale in your bathroom is a great way to keep an eye on your weight and motivate you to reach your weight-loss goals.

To choose the right scale for you and your family, keep in mind the following features beyond price:
Specifications of the scale. First decide if you want a standard floor scale or a standing scale like they use in your doctor’s office (some come with a height bar, too). Choose a size that will work comfortably for both you and your bathroom, or wherever you choose to locate your scale. Also make sure the weight range of the scale is adequate for your needs.
Digital vs. analog scales. Analog bathroom scales are simple to use and affordable, but are typically not as accurate as their digital counterparts, especially as the spring mechanism wears out. Digital scales can read your weight within one-tenth of a pound and may also store information for later access and/or comparisons to past readings.
Readability of display. Make sure you can easily read the display while standing on the scale. In addition to a standard display, some bathroom scales also provide your weight via paper printouts or spoken out loud for the visually impaired.
Accuracy of results. A good analog scale should be easily adjustable so that it continues to “zero out” or start precisely at zero (this is not an issue with digital models). With digital scales, remember you’ll need to change the batteries occasionally.
Consider design and style. A scale is more likely to be used if it’s a visible feature of your bathroom, which means it’s important to choose one that’s aesthetically pleasing to you. Scales are available in a wide range of colors and materials to match any décor.
Extra features. More advanced digital bathroom scales can also measure BMI (Body Mass Index), body fat percentage, resting metabolism and other factors. These extras can bring the price up, so decide which features you’ll really use. Some digital scales even connect to your computer so you can save your weight information or track it online.
